Our customers regularly engage us to deliver high quality repairs and coatings for many different components. They continually trust our team to deliver high quality work to restore their worn and damaged components.

THE PROBLEM

New Metal Surfaces was engaged to repair the main shaft for one of their customers Secondary Cone Crushers. As the main shaft is exposed to hot-cold temperature transitions as part of the fitting process, attention to detail and accuracy were vital to this repair.

CUSTOMER TESTIMONIAL

“We contacted New Metal Surfaces to repair our client's secondary cone crusher main shaft, and we were really happy with the service provided to us. The shaft has now been fitted and it has gone in well, as we expected it would.”

THE SOLUTION

1. Based on the specifications provided to us by our customer, our team of specialists began by providing a recommendation for the best material given the substrate material and what application the component would be used.

2. Once we received confirmation, we began by prepping the damaged area for spraying. As the shaft was 4.5 tonne and approximately 2000mm long, this component was machined using our 5m lathe. This process preps the surface so that it is ready to be grit blasted and then sprayed.

3. Once prepped, our spray technicians grit blasted the surface, and applied a HVOF coating to the damaged area. We chose a HVOF coating as it has a superior bond strength compared to an Arc spray coating, resulting in a denser, harder coating that has little porosity and could be machined to our customer's desired surface finish.

4. After spraying the journal, the component was put back on the Lathe to go through finish machining to achieve its final dimensions.
